With Berkshire Hathaway approaching quickly in early May, it is appropriate to reflect on the impact Warren Buffett’s success has had on the Omaha community and a little history of his shareholder meeting. More than 40,000 people from all over the world will soon descend on Omaha for this celebration; and it is exactly that: a celebration. It is not just investors making the trip to ask Warren and Charlie questions about their investment strategies. It is acolytes coming to eat See’s Candies, drink Coca-Cola and snack on Dairy Queen Dilly Bars. Berkshire Hathway has more than 100 holdings (in whole or in part) in other companies. From its humble start as a gathering of a few shareholders in an Omaha cafeteria, the meeting has grown into a four-day celebration. It encompasses the spirit of Omaha and the spirit of America. It is a cross between a county fair and an investment crash course; a family reunion, and a spiritual retreat. If you have not been before and would like a pass to attend, we have extra badges at our office. Call any of our office staff if you would like one.
