SEC Investor AlertSubmitted by Karstens Investments on May 3rd, 2018

The SEC has issued an Investor Alert regarding fraudsters who are impersonating SEC employees and contacting investors to purchase stock, confirm trades, send money, or reveal sensitive information. Fraudsters purporting to be calling from the SEC (or the IRS for that matter) create a sense of panic and urgency and investors may feel that they shouldn’t question these government authorities but should instead “give them everything they ask for.” Please know that the actual SEC does not contact investors to confirm trades, set up accounts, or record trade details. We remind clients to never send money or provide any account information to someone over the phone.
You can go to https://www.investor.gov/additional-resources/news-alerts/alerts-bulleti... if you would like to hear recordings of two of these actual fraudulent calls. It is alarming how much more professional and realistic these calls sound compared to other fraud attempts. If you suspect that you have been contacted by an SEC impersonator, please call us at 402-492-2727 and we will be happy to help with any necessary next steps.
